Catherine Gibson grew up in Connecticut with loving and supportive parents who fostered tolerance and acceptance of all others who were somehow different. No matter what the disability or life challenge, Cathy takes a proactive approach to helping all children understand that everyone is important and everyone has a special gift.

Fascinated by the beauty of sign language, Cathy took classes at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, Connecticut. She taught dance to pre-school classes through sign language and body movement. The characters in Cathy’s first three books, Through Sophie’s Eyes, Coach Bob and Me and Sophie discovers Synchronized Swimming, are based on both deaf and hearing individuals that she met through her teaching experiences that have touched and inspired her.

The message that Cathy conveys in her thoughtful stories of children with special gifts is that acceptance, encouragement and support of those with life challenges builds the confidence and character that all children need to lead happy and giving lives.Cathy founded the organization, For Children with Love, in order to give back to those who have touched her heart. Profits of each book sale are donated to various children’s charities.
